Comment on the following statement.

A pupil cannot study effectively without a computer.

What is your opinion? Do you agree with this statement?

Write 200–250 words.

«Make an introduction (state the problem)» — «Вступление». Здесь можно обратиться к читателю, призвать его задуматься над проблемой. Или обозначить саму проблему.

The computer is one of the greatest inventions of all times. It helps us to work, relax, and study. Computer technologies are widely used in education by both teachers and pupils. It is believed that computers help them to be more effective.

2. Второй абзац.

«Express your personal opinion and give 2-3 reasons for your opinion» — «Ваше мнение».

В первом абзаце основной части необходимо изложить свое мнение и привести аргументы его правдивости. Получается как минимум 2 аргумента в потверждение своего мнения с поддерживающими его предложениями. Итого 4 предложения на два аргумента.

In my opinion, it is really the fact that pupils cannot study effectively without computers. Firstly, modern computers have connection to the Internet, which means they have access to huge volume of various information and news. It goes without saying that you cannot study effectively without being up-to-date.

3. Третий абзац.

«Express an opposing opinion and give 1-2 reasons for this opposing opinion» — «Мнение оппонентов».

Во втором абзаце основной части от нас требуется выразить мнение оппонентов и дать 1-2 аргумента в его доказательство. Здесь также можно использовать клеше для выражения мнения, которые представлены выше.

Secondly, pupils can keep in touch with their teachers via the global network. For example, they can e-mail each other or communicate through Skype. However, there people who are convinced that computers impede schoolchildren’s learning at school. The reason is that computers make people stop thinking on their own. When people have an opportunity to run a multiplying program, they do not need to make an effort to do it mentally.

4. Четвёртый абзац.

«Explain why you don’t agree with the opposing opinion» — «Опровержение мнения оппонентов».

В данном абзаце необходимо опровергнуть позицию оппонентов. Доказать несостоятельность или неверность их мнения. Однако здесь можно частично согласиться и сказать, что данная точка зрения также имеет место быть, признавая актуальность или закономерность оппозиционного мнения. В этом случае надо уметь найти слабые стороны рассматриваемой точки зрения и дать дополнительную информацию, восполняющую пробелы в их логичности.

Клеше для опровержения оппозиционного мнения:

«While… could lessen / worsen / decrease, etc… this is a small loss that could be offset by…» — «При том, что… может ослабить / ухудшить / уменьшить… это малая потеря, которая может быть компенсирована…».
«However, this idea cannot go further than being an immature claim because / since…» — «Однако эта идея не может быть ничем кроме поверхностного утверждения, потому что…».
«This point has merits on the surface and could be acceptable to an extent. Nevertheless, I cannot support this point of view because computers have more pluses than minuses. I strongly believe that computers contribute to people’s mental development rather than they break this process.

5. Последний абзац.

«Make a conclusion restating your position» — «Заключение».

В заключении нужно выразить свое мнение другими словами, избегая повторения уже написанных фраз. Более профессионально высказать в заключении обобщение или сделать дополнительное наблюдение.

In conclusion I would like to emphasize the fact that computers and other electronic devices are used not only by pupils but also by their parents who want to control their children’s academic progress.

The problem of relationships between parents and children is very controversial. While many people think that mothers and fathers should not be strict, there are a few opposite opinions. Who is right? Let us consider the facts.

From my point of view, if a vast amount of parents did not have such a soft character, children would not be so picky today. I strongly believe that the more babies are allowed to do the worse they become. They can even not attend classes, not do homework or they can behave impolitely. In addition, youth is able to manipulate their parents. I think that is because parents can sometimes believe their crocodile tears.

3. Третий абзац.

Nevertheless, there are a lot of opposite points of view nowadays. Some scientists state that family relationships should be as soft as possible. If parents bring up children in a harsh way, they become narrow-minded. Psychologists believe that pupils who are in kind families can reveal talents faster than usually.

4. Четвёртый абзац.

However, there is a considerable amount of great personalities whose parents were strict. For instance, we can consider Bill Gates who has founded Microsoft. His father was not allowed to do all things he wanted but Bill became broad-minded and successful.
